The Mifflin Juniata United Way’s Walk for Warmth is set for Saturday, February 8 at Kish Park and Walker Township Park. Registration is at 9:30AM; the open ceremony is at 10AM.

The Walk for Warmth is a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for the Mifflin-Juniata Energy Bank. Children and dogs are welcome to join the fun! Walk for Warm enables the Energy Bank to be responsive to meeting the needs of our most vulnerable residents. Often, individuals are forced to make decisions about paying rent on time or paying heating coasts. Donations will allow Energy Bank recipients to access funds to assist with either of these issues.

The Fremont Fire Department’s 6th annual Meat Bingo will be held on Saturday, March 15. Doors will open at 3PM and the games will start at 5PM. Tickets are $25 each. All meats are provided by Stauffer’s Butcher Shop. Tickets include 20 regular games and 3 specials. Door prizes, 50/50 , rip tickets and side raffles running throughout the evening too. Juniata Elementary PTO is hosting a Cash Bingo on Sunday, March 16 at the Port Royal Firehall. Doors open at Noon and bingo will start at 1PM. The kitchen will be open. It’s 1848, and Edgar Allan Poe is just coming off the spectacular success of “The Raven.” Unfortunately, it’s only earned him a grand total of nine dollars. So when a wealthy dowager commissions him to write her a poem for the vast sum of one hundred dollars, he leaps at the chance. Only problem: the man who shows up to write the poem isn’t Poe, he’s Poe’s mailman, and he’s on a quest to woo the dowager’s spinster niece. Playing Poe is harder than it looks, though, especially when your mustache keeps falling off, the teenage grand-daughter of the house is lusting after you, and Poe’s arch-nemesis, Rufus Griswold, just happens to be dropping by to settle old scores. A freewheeling, door-slamming farce with a touch of the macabre.

Juniata County Fire Police is having an Advanced Fire Police Training Class at Thompsontown Fire Company on April 26 and 27 from 8AM to 5PM with an hour for lunch which will be provided. Come on out for the comeback festival, DirtFest 2025, at one of the top-rated trail networks in Pennsylvania, the Allegrippis Trails, and celebrate mountain biking! The festival is taking place May 9-11. The heart of the event, expo area, check-in, etc., is moving back into Susquehannock Campground! Your registration gets you access to demos, skills clinics, group rides, and good times. This is a non-profit event. Your registration directly supports the Allegrippis Trail System. The 3rd annual Benefit Softball Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 17, starting at 8AM. All proceeds go to the Trooper Rougeau Jr. Benefit Fund. There will be a Chinese Auction. This event is Juniata County presents a wonderful opportunity for families with disabilities to come together in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. It is designed to not only provide a few hours of fun, but also to offer valuable resources that can assist families in navigating the complexities of care and support for individuals with disabilities. By bringing together local agencies and organizations, the event allows families to make important connections that could lead to further support in areas such as healthcare, educations and community services.

Lillie Scones is a sweet retired nanny who runs a boarding house with one resident and “a cat the size of the Louisiana Purchase.” Her two friends, Jocelyn and Carmella, help to pass the time by listening to music and gossiping. Then Stuart, an old charge of hers, rents a room. Lillie is tickled to have him around again, not knowing he is planning on robbing the bank on the corner. Stuart’s mind may not be totally on the bank job, however, when he meets Betty. However, when Stuart finds out that Betty is about to graduate from an academy on the very night they plan to rob the bank, the perfect alibi presents itself – why not go to the graduation, be seen there, sneak out and rob the bank. Perfect, thinks Little Pat, Stuart’s wise-cracking sidekick. Unfortunately for the two would-be crooks the graduation is at a police academy. Throw in a chief of police, a suspicious fiancé and a half-pint brat with an “Al Capone do-it-yourself tool kit,” and nobody knows what will happen next. In the spirit of Frank Capra, this tale of a bank heist and three retired nannies has all the classic comedy twists and surprises fit for any audiences.

The East Waterford Fireman’s Festival and Yard Sale is set for Saturday, May 24 at 10AM at the East Waterford Carnival Grounds. They will be opening the Carnival Grounds for anyone who wants to set up “yardsale” or vendor spots. Food Stands will be open watch the event for more information as we continue to organize and prepare.
