Explore the Juniata River Valley on Saturday, July 20 through the Juniata River Float. Bring your kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, inner tubs, whatever you want to float! The 5th annual Dewey Hill Benefit will be held on Saturday, August 17 on Dewey Hill Road in Thompsontown. There will be a meal, cornhole tournament and Chinese Auction.

The meal starts at Noon. Menu includes: chicken, pulled pork, mac and cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, and dessert. The meal costs at a $15 donation.

Registration for the cornhole tournament is from 11AM to 12:30PM. The bags will fly at 1PM. Partners are random draw. Boards will be provided; you may bring your own bags if desired. The cost to enter is $10.

DAY OF CARING

The 27th annual Day of Caring will take place on Wednesday, September 18. Registration is now open for both volunteer teams and agency projects. The two main objectives of Day of Caring are to provide non-profit human service agencies with an opportunity to complete projects that they otherwise could not afford to do, and to involve volunteers in first-hand experience with area charities.

The Day of Caring is a great tradition for many reasons but one reason being that it allows the community to come together. Each year more people want to give back to our community, which is the most rewarding part of this entire event. United Way is currently seeking projects from non-profit human service agencies. Any incorporated non-profit or government entity, school, or neighborhood association is encouraged to submit projects. Agencies do not have to be a United Way partner program to benefit from Day of Caring – anyone is welcome to participate. All kinds of projects, big and small are welcome.

Teams of caring individuals in Mifflin and Juniata counties who want to make a difference in their local community are also needed. Teams are formed from individuals at local businesses, associations, service groups, and other non-profits. Teams can be any size and any skill level. Day of Caring is a free event for volunteer participants, which is made possible by the generosity of sponsors.
