Geisinger Lewistown Hospital recently honored a couple of extraordinary local nurses and non-licensed nursing team members with the DAISY and Sunflower Awards. Jenn Dunmire, R.N., received the DAISY Award and Haley Bacon, patient care assistant, received the Sunflower Award.
“On behalf of all of us at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, I want to say thank you to Jenn and Haley for the care and compassion you give our patients every day,” said Stacey Osborne, DNP, vice president and chief nursing officer for the hospital. “They’re both very special nursing team members, and we honor them for all they do to care for our communities.”
The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families and coworkers. It’s administered to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide.
Dunmire, described in her nomination as “so passionate and caring,” stands by each patient’s side and attends to them with nurturing care and concern, even in the most serious circumstances. Dunmire’s nominator added, “She always had a smile on her face and just made me feel like I was her top priority.”
The Sunflower Award is a recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that non-licensed nursing team members provide to patients, families and colleagues.
Bacon is known for instinctively advocating for her patients. “She is awesome for our unit,” said Madalyn Leister, RN, a team member who nominated Bacon for the award. “She is a positive influence to coworkers, patients and family members. Haley is kind, caring and goes above and beyond, even braiding patients’ hair if they ask her. I am proud to work with her.”
