East Juniata’s girls soccer team beat Lewisburg, 3-1, thanks to a pair of Kierstyn Fogle goals. Marissa Coudriet also found the back of the net for the Tigers.
Keni Kahley’s unassisted second half goal helped Mifflin County edge State College in field hockey, 1-0.
Mifflin County’s golfers went 1-2 yesterday, beating Everett, but losing to Hollidaysburg and Huntingdon. Owen Wise led the Huskies, shooting a 93. Mifflin County’s record sits at 10 wins against 20 losses. The wins are the most the Huskies have had since 2013.
Juniata’s volleyball team was shut out by St. Joseph’s, 3-0. Leading the Indians in double-digit digs in defeat were Hunter Johns with 17, Jordan Hockenberry with 15 and Kiersten Willis with a dozen.
The race for the final National League wild card got a little tighter last night, with the leader, Chicago, losing. Milwaukee won its six straight to pull into a tie with the Cubbies. The Mets, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, collected nine runs on 11 hits in their 9-0 win over Arizona, which has now lost four in a row. The Mets are tied with the Phillies, two games out. The Fightin’s lost to Atlanta, 3-1. The D-backs are still just two and a half out despite the recent slide.
Week Two in the NFL kicks off tonight. A pair of 0-1 teams meet in Carolina, as the Panthers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And the Mifflin County girl’S lacrosse team is hosting free sessions to learn how to play the game, starting next Wednesday for Huskies in grades seven through 12.
