Juniata beat cross-county rival East Juniata in boy’s soccer, 5-1, while East Juniata’s girls cruised past Halifax, 10-0. Mifflin County, meanwhile, was swept by Mechanicsburg, 2-1 in the boy’s game, 7-0 in the girls’.

 

The East Juniata field hockey team won its second game of the year, taking down Southern Huntingdon, 9-0, with Karah Goss scoring four times for the Tigers.

 

Imarilis Mercado had a whopping 42 digs in Juniata’s 3-1 volleyball win over Upper Dauphin. Hunter Johns pitched in 30, Jordan Hockenberry 29 more. Mackenzie Bennett had a team-high 22 assists in the win.

 

The Phillies fired manager Gabe Kapler yesterday. Kapler finished two games under .500 in his two years with the club.

 

As for the teams still playing this season, the Astros will play the New York Yankees in the American League championship Series after Houston ousted Tampa Bay last night, 6-1, in Game five of their divisional series. Tonight, St. Louis and Washington play Game One of the National League Championship Series.

 

In the Week Six kickoff in the NFL, New England improved to 6-0 with a 35-14 win over the New York Giants. In high school football tonight, Mifflin County hosts Dover. Juniata is at Halifax. Mount Union welcomes in Bellwood-Antis, while Huntingdon hosts Philipsburg-Osceola and Newport plays visiting Tri-Valley. Saturday, 10th-ranked Penn State travels to #17 Iowa for a 7:30 kickoff against the Hawkeyes.

 

And Port Royal Speedway is back at it this weekend, hosting the 8th Annual Blue-Collar Classic on Saturday, the day before Kyle Busch leads a pack of eight playoff contenders into Talladega for NASCAR’s Monster Energy race.
