The East Juniata girls are into the state quarterfinals, thanks to a resounding 8-2 opening round win over Mountain View in the PIAA tournament. The Tigers will face Fairfield, the only team to beat EJ this season, on Saturday.

The East Juniata boys are still alive as well, after  upsetting Halifax in penalty kicks. The Tigers and Wildcats were tied at two after regulation and a couple of overtime periods. EJ won the game on PK’s with goalie Andrew Hunter coming up huge all night long, saving 24 Halifax shots in all. The Tigers will play Dock Mennonite on Saturday.

Juniata’s boys almost pulled out a victory too, losing a heartbreaker to Deer Lakes in double overtime, 1-0.

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season are out and there’s good news to be had for Penn State. The Lions are in the top four for the first time in the format’s history. Ohio State is first, followed by LSU at two, Alabama at three and the Lions at number four. Penn State plays unbeaten #17 Minnesota on Saturday.

A 4-1 win for the Flyers last night, as Philly beat visiting the Carolina Hurricanes.

Both Penn State basketball teams opened the season with wins. The Lion men beat visiting Maryland Eastern Shore, 84-46, while the Lady Lions won at Towson, 73-67.

And Juniata College is still hanging in the Top 25 Division III women’s volleyball poll. The Eagles are down another spot this week, currently sitting at #22 in the country.
