Mifflin and Juniata counties will be well-represented at the PIAA track and field championships, today and tomorrow. Huskies’ Skylar Ciccolini, Chayce Macknair, Ella Spriggle, Seth Phillips and Taylor Ciccolini will compete , as well Garrett Baublitz, Jeremiah Parson, Will Tyson, Chase Lehman, Clay Yeager, Tad Shellenberger, and Megan Brubaker from Juniata High School.
Four-seed Mount Union upset top-seeded Tyrone in the District VI Class AAA baseball semifinals yesterday, 8-2. The win improved the Trojans to 20-3 on the year and earned them a state playoff berth. They’ll play the winner of the Philipsburg-Osceola – Forest Hills game for the district title. That game was postponed yesterday.
The Pirates’ offense was in full force against Colorado yesterday. Bucs over the Rockies, 14-6. Also yesterday afternoon, the Phillies defeated the Cubs, 9-7.
Akron knocked off Harrisburg again, 6-2, this time. New Hampshire, meanwhile, completed a sweep of Altoona with yesterday’s 7-2 victory.
A big weekend for racing. NASCAR runs the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday evening. The Indy 500 runs earlier that day. The Fallen Heroes Championships run at Port Royal Speedway tomorrow, the Weikert Memorial on Sunday. Selinsgrove will run the Jack Gunn Memorial tomorrow.
Toronto has rebounded to win three straight in the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals. Raptors lead the best-of-seven, three games to two, after winning in Milwaukee last night, 105-99.
And the NCAA men’s lacrosse semifinals take place tomorrow. Virginia plays Duke at noon, followed by Penn State and Yale at 2:30. The winners will play in Monday’s championship game, one o’clock, at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles.
