The eighth-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions open the New Year with a pair of games against the Niagara Purple Eagles this weekend with puck drop slated for 7 p.m. tonight and 6 p.m. tomorrow.

 

Jon Merrill got his first goal of the season from a new spot on the ice, Max Pacioretty scored twice and Vegas went on to a 5-4 victory over the Flyers.

 

Brent Burns fired a slap shot through a screen and past goalie Tristan Jarry 2:02 into the extra period to give the Sharks just their third victory in their last 14 games beating the Penguins 3-2.

 

The NFL playoffs begin Saturday as Wild Card weekend gets underway.  The AFC takes the stage Saturday for the Bills and Texans.  The late game features the Titans and Patriots.  On Sunday, the NFC takes over.  The Vikings and Saints hook up in the early game.  The Eagles host the Seahawks at 4:40 Sunday afternoon.
