Mifflin County used seven falls and five tech falls to rout Harrisburg in high school wrestling, 65-11. Elsewhere, Newport took care of Juniata, 48-25.

 

Juniata’s Jamie Bailor scored a team-high 23 points but Halifax still managed to beat the Indians last night, 55-47. The Juniata girls also lost to Halifax. Olivia Clark had 16 to pace the Indians in the 61-54 setback.

 

Fifth-ranked North Carolina State, featuring former Mifflin County state wrestling champions Hayden and Trent Hidlay, will be action this weekend. Tonight’s match in Philadelphia against Drexel will stream on FloWrestling for PRO subscribers. Tomorrow’s match against Hofstra will stream for free at GoHofstra.com.

 

As we learned yesterday on Merf Radio’s Facebook page, Penn State field hockey player Paityn Wirth, out of Greenwood High School, has been named to the U.S. Women’s u21 National team. Wirth started all 20 games for the Lions in her freshman year, ending up second on the team in scoring.

 

The Flyers and Penguins both lost games by 4-1 scores.  Pittsburgh lost in Boston, while Philadelphia lost to visiting Montreal.

 

And the Penn State Lady Lions lost a Big 10 game to Rutgers last night, 62-57.
