A Perry County man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison on child pornography charges. The Justice Department says 58-year-old John Shover of Duncannon was sentenced July 30th for using a minor to produce child pornography. According to U. S. Attorney David Freed, Shover pleaded guilty to charges for violations between January 2017 and March 2018. The case was brought as part of a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Each year, America loses more than 10,000 people to drunk-driving crashes. With the support of law enforcement, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is working to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving, and to help get drunk drivers off the roads. As summer winds down and Labor Day approaches, the Mifflin County DUI Task Force will intensify efforts to protect the community by letting drivers know that drunk driving is a deadly crime that will not be tolerated. Labor Day is one of the deadliest holidays for drunk-driving crashes. The DUI Task Force will increase high visibility patrols with additional officers on the streets from August 13th through August 30th.
Authorities say a hit-and-run crash damaged several mailboxes over the weekend in Yeagertown. According to Mifflin County Regional Police, a silver vehicle struck several mailboxes at the intersection of Ewardtown Road and Wilderness Drive late Saturday into early Sunday.
