The 45th Annual Central Pennsylvania Meat Canning Project will be held February 11-14 at the East Derry Fire Company. To date, with your support, they have canned 688,854 cans of product. They will again be canning turkey.
After the meat is canned, 90% of the products go to the Mennonite Central Committee’s warehouse for shipment to relief efforts throughout the world. The Association keeps 10% of the cans here in Central PA for those in need. The food is distributed in March to agencies which are shared throughout Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, Centre and Blair Counties.
They will be canning from 7AM to 7PM, followed by cleanup. Groups are encouraged to schedule times, but walk-ins are always needed and welcomed. To schedule a group, please call Ben Stoltzfus at 814-625-2430 or Jonathon Coldren at 717-250-6840. They are nonprofit and all help is volunteers.
For the last 44 years, community members have blessed them with your support for this project. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated and can be sent to The Central PA World Hunger Association, PO Box 76 Belleville, PA 17004.
If you or your church, business or organization would also like to donate food to help feed the workers at the site please contact Teresa Cunningham at 717-543-6026.
