WHAT A WEEKEND FOR OUR AREA STUDENT-ATHLETES, CURRENT AND FORMER

Congratulations to Mifflin’s Katelynn Krepps of the Juniata Wrestling Club, Inc on winning the 190-pound title at the 2024 Eastern National MAWA Championships. She defeated Kenadee Shockey of Waynesboro in the finals to claim the title.

Libby Snyder (pictured), 18, of River Run Gymnastics in Mifflintown, competed in the Level 9 Eastern National Gymnastics Championships on Sunday in Myrtle Beach, SC. Libby brought home an 8th place finish on both the floor and all-around. Her team also took the top honors in the team division.

Juniata High alum and current Juniata College star Barrett Walters medaled twice at the Landmark Conference championships over the weekend, placing second in the hammer throw and third in the javelin. He also finished a solid fifth in the discus and 12th in the shot put. Fellow Eagle Justice Sheaffer, a freshman out of Mifflin County, finished 10th in the women’s javelin. A former East Juniata star, Ethan Roe, jumped a personal-best in finishing seventh in the triple jump for Susquehanna. He was also 14th in the javelin and 15th in the long jump.

Mifflin County’s Myka Simmons was named Outstanding Performer for AAA Boys for winning the 100 and 400 and finishing second in the 200 at the Mountain Lion Classic in Altoona over the weekend. Teammate Carter Smith broke the Mifflin County record in winning the 800.

Juniata, meanwhile, had its distance runners take part in the Stan Morgan Invitational in Carlisle. Sylvia Brubaker broke her own school record in winning the 3,200. Wyatt Stroup set a new school record in the boy’s 3,200 with teammate Joey Bomberger setting a new personal-best and finishing third.
