How exciting! Mifflin County Middle School is the host for this Friday’s Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Association (PMEA) District 4 Band Fest! Band Fest is just like District Band but an activity for 6th grade students. MCMS’ Samantha Gates is the host director.
Band Fest is a one-day festival akin to district band and choir, but for 6th graders only. It is presented through PMEA)’s District 4, which covers seven counties across central PA (Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, and Mifflin). Directors select their top 6th grade students for consideration.
This year, there will be 137 students participating from 22 different schools from those seven counties. Of those 137, fifty come from students in Huntingdon, Mifflin, and Juniata counties.
This year, the guest conductor is Kevin Milliken, retired band and choir director from East Juniata and a former PMEA District 4 President. They’ll spend the day rehearsing the five tunes he’s selected, including one by local composer and retired music educator Phil Loewen.
The concert, open to the public, starts at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
