The “Hams Across America” program was created in 2016 to honor the way pig farmers serve their communities year-round through food bank donations of hams or other pork products.
As you now, a local guy, Chris Hoffman of McAlisterville, was recently named America’s Pig Farmer of the Year, so there’s no one better to talk about this initiative.
We suggest donating something like a canned ham to your local food bank (i.e. Juniata County Food Pantry, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, Salvation Army).
Take a photo of yourself with your donation and then post the photo on your favorite social media platform, calling out three other people to do the same. Here’s a sample text to use with your picture to call out your friends:
Pay it forward this holiday season by participating in the #HamsAcrossAmerica challenge with us! I would like to challenge Joe Smith, Jim Hayes and Cindy Lou Who to donate a ham to a food pantry of their choice. Want to get involved? Challenge a friend to #GiveAHam! #MerfRadio
Just make sure you tag who you challenge and that you use those hashtags. This is a national program but we have to set an example in Juniata and Mifflin counties, since we are the home of America’s Pig Farmer of the Year!
