A former Mifflin County basketball player has taken over as head coach of the West York girl’s basketball team.

Jason Getz, a 1993 Lewistown Area High School alum and longtime West York assistant, has been promoted to replace the departing James Kunkle. Getz played under Sam Bray, Dave Sheetz and Jim Sibley while at LAHS.

He started his coaching career under Wayne Brookhart in the Lewistown junior high program before assisting then-Panthers’ coach Aaron Gingrich.

Getz also coaches the West York Middle School girl’s soccer team, which he has done since its inception in 2020.
