NC State 184-pound redshirt sophomore Trent Hidlay (Mifflin County High School/Lewistown, Pa) has been named the 2021-22 Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestling Scholar-Athlete of the Year and heads up the sport’s All-ACC Academic Team.
 
Academically, Hidlay has maintained a 4.0 GPA while pursuing his degree in business administration. Inducted into the inaugural class of NC State’s Chi Alpha Sigma (National Honor Society), Hidlay has been named a 2021 and 2022 NWCA Scholar All-American in addition to his three-time selection to the All-ACC Academic Wrestling Team. He is eligible for his fourth selection to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
 
Hidlay helped lead the Wolfpack to its fourth straight ACC Championship by winning the gold medal in his weight class for the second consecutive year. He followed up with a fifth-place All-America finish at the NCAA Championships last month in Detroit. The Lewistown, Pennsylvania, native finished the season with a 21-2 record that included a 13-0 mark in dual competition and an unbeaten mark against ACC opponents. He concluded the most recent season with a 54-8 record for his career.
 
Hidlay becomes the fourth wrestler to earn the award under head coach Pat Popolizio: Nick Gwiazdowski (2016), Michael Macchiavello (2018) and Hayden Hidlay (2020).
 
The Pack led the ACC with six selections on the All-ACC Wrestling Academic Team, it was the second straight year the Pack led the ACC with six selections.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
