Despite getting rained out, the Phillies gained another half-game on Atlanta in the NL East yesterday. The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of Atlanta with yesterday’s 4-3 win. The Braves lead on Philadelphia is down to two games with under a month to play. The Fightin’s will try and get a game with Washington in today, while Atlanta moves on to Colorado to face the Rockies.
The Pirates, meanwhile, will move across town to play the Cubs after losing to Chicago’s other team, the White Sox, 6-3.
In area minor league play, Erie mopped up Harrisburg, 9-1, and Akron took care of Altoona, 9-5.
