East Juniata’s Caleb Kirk shot a team-best 90 at yesterday’s four-team golf match. Millersburg won, followed by Newport and then the Tigers. Susquenita didn’t field a full team so they were left out of the team scoring.

The Phillies scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth, but still came up a run short in an 8-7 loss to Arizona. The National League-worst Diamondbacks swept the Phillies in a three-game set just last week. Philadelphia will play Arizona again today, tomorrow and Sunday.

A eight-run eighth inning led the Pirates to an 11-7 win over St. Louis.

In area minor league action, Hartford scored four in the ninth to beat Harrisburg, 7-5. Altoona shut out Richmond, 3-0.

The high school football season gets underway tonight. Mifflin County hosts on State College, Juniata is at Upper Dauphin and Huntingdon welcomes in Mount Union. Tickets for all Mifflin County home games this season, by the way, are available online only with no cash sales at the gate.

And, in NFL preseason play, the Steelers are at Carolina and the Eagles are in Jersey to play the New York Jets.
