Phillies’ starter Zach Wheeler was pitching well, allowing four runs, two earned and striking out 10, after eight innings. Phils’ skipper Joe Girardi opted to send Wheeler back out for the ninth. Tampa Bay promptly singled, doubled and homered to snap a 4-4 tie, winning, 7-4.

Elsewhere last evening, the Pirates lost to Arizona, 5-2, while, down on the farm, Hartford held on to beat Harrisburg, 3-2. Richmond shut out Altoona, 6-0.
