Representative Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) will host a free community shredding event this weekend.  The event is for residents only, not businesses.  Participants must stay in their vehicles.  All shredding materials must be placed in the trunk or truck bed area of the vehicle, not the backseat, prior to arrival.  Transport materials in containers you will not want returned.  The maximum is four boxes of material to be shredded. No metal – including paper clips, binder clips or spiral notebooks – can be shredded.  The shredding event is from 8:00 to 11:00 am – or until the shredder is full – Saturday (August 28th) at the Mifflin County Youth Park in Reedsville.  For more information, call Benninghoff’s Reedsville office at 717-667-1175 or his Bellefonte office at 814-355-3523.

The dog days are officially here.  Thursday is National Dog Day! Celebrated annually on August 26th, it is one of the most popular pet holidays of the year. According to the National Pet Owners Survey (2019-20), 85 million Americans own at least one dog.  National Dog Day was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige.  The aim of the day is to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year.  It also acknowledges family dogs, and dogs that work to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.  National Dog Day encourages dog ownership of all breeds, and hopes to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.
