A new state law set to take effect at the end of August will provide additional support to Pennsylvania military families by expanding employment protections for service in out-of-state National Guard units.  Act 31 extends Pennsylvania’s current employment protections to Pennsylvania citizens who are members of another state’s National Guard and are called up to serve outside of the Commonwealth.

The House State Government Committee will hold its first three regional hearings on congressional redistricting this week in western Pennsylvania to gather input on the drawing of new district lines based on data from the U.S. Census.  The first hearing is today in Grove City.  There are many options for submitting your feedback. You can register to testify in person at one of the hearings or submit written testimony.  Every 10 years, information collected through the Census determines the number of congressional representatives each state is entitled to based on population.  All hearings will be streamed live, and video of past hearings archived, at www.PARedistricting.com.

Penn Highlands Community College in Johnstown will award nearly $832,000 in economic relief directly to students impacted by the pandemic for the Fall 2021 semester as a result of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.  All enrolled for-credit students are eligible for COVID-19 relief payments. No Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to receive the relief funds, however, students that show exceptional need based upon their FAFSA status will be prioritized.
