New England posted a 4-0 tournament-opening win over Mifflin County’s 15-year-old all-stars at the Babe Ruth World Series. In the second of four pool play games, the locals take on the state champion East Texas team tonight at six eastern.

That two-game lead the Phillies had in the NL East two days ago is gone. The L.A. Dodgers beat the Phillies again, 8-2 this time, allowing Atlanta to move into a tie for first. The Mets are only a game back. The Pirates, meanwhile, lost number seven in a row. St. Louis beat the Buccos, 4-0.

Tonight is Major League Baseball’s Field of Dreams game. The Yankees will play the Chicago White Sox at a field a few hundred yards away from where the movie of the same name was filmed. There are no bleachers in the outfield. It’s a field of corn, just like in the movie.

The Spikes return home for their final two games oF the season, tonight and tomorrow. Last night, State College beat Williamsport, 6-1. Elsewhere last evening, Harrisburg blanked New Hampshire, 2-0, while Altoona and Erie were rained out.

And we get a couple of NFL preseason games tonight. The Eagles host the Steelers and Washington is at New England.
