A former Cumberland County police detective and FBI Task Force officer has been convicted of bribery and other offenses.  The Justice Department says 53-year-old Christopher Collare, now of Blythewood, South Carolina, was convicted of federal program bribery, bribery by a federal official, distribution of heroin, and six counts of false statements.  Collare was a veteran detective for the Carlisle Police Department, a member of the Cumberland County Drug Task Force and a task force officer with the FBI.  According to court documents, Collare used his official position to obtain sex from two women in exchange for agreeing to take actions in prosecutions.  He was convicted last Friday, and taken into custody following the verdict.

Reports of an unemployment fraud scheme continue throughout the region.  Authorities in Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, and Snyder Counties have received numerous complaints over the past few weeks.  The latest victim was a Mifflintown woman.  The Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) has identified additional phishing attempts and fraud scams leveraging social media, text messaging, and email to lure unsuspecting individuals into providing personal information so that scammers can claim their identity.  Authorities offer tips to avoid identity theft such as never giving personal information through emails, texts or suspicious phone calls.  Do not trust unofficial websites, and report suspicious contact and inquiries to the police.  For more information, click here.
