Pennsylvania House Bill 101, providing farmers limited civil liability protections while opening their farms to the public for a fee, has been signed into law as Act 27 of 2021. Farm markets, pick-your-own produce, corn mazes, Petting zoos, hayrides and farm tours are the types of enterprises that fall under the term ‘agritourism.’ They can make the difference between having a positive year on the ledger as opposed to ending up in the red, especially for small family farmers. Act 27 provides family farms the means to diversify by protecting agritourism business from frivolous lawsuits where no party is at fault for injuries or damages
A late-June shooting in Lewistown has been ruled accidental. A 78-year-old Columbia, PA man was injured on Highland Avenue June 27th. Authorities say the victim’s firearm discharged in his hand while being mishandled.
Bridge construction work on Strodes Run Road over Strodes Run in Granville Township begins today (July 6th). The road will be closed for the duration of the project (approximately 2 months) and detour signs will be in place. Please be aware of the construction zone and obey the traffic detour signs.
