Washington beat the Phillies last night, 3-2. Fightin’s skipper Joe Girardi was ejected in the fourth inning. He had asked umpires to inspect Nats pitcher Max Scherzer for foreign substances which led to some chirping between Girardi and the Washington dugout before Girardi finally got the hook. Nothing was found on Sherzer.

Also last night, the Chicago White Sox scored three in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead before the Pirates rallied with four of their own in the bottom of that inning for a 6-3 interleague win.

And a five-run third helped Mahoning Valley defeat State College, 8-2, while, in the Double-A Northeast, Harrisburg scored three in the top of the ninth to beat Altoona, 7-4.
