Geisinger continues to offer walk-in and by-appointment COVID-19 vaccine events at its four vaccine centers. Walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations will be available today (June 23rd) at the Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital Vaccine Center on Highland Avenue Extended from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. In addition to the vaccine centers, COVID-19 vaccines are available by appointment at Geisinger-Philipsburg in Centre County.

The Pennsylvania Senate has approved legislation to create a smoother transition to high school graduation for students who are experiencing homelessness, or are in foster care. According to state Senator Judy Ward (R-30), Senate Bill 324 would designate a point person to review past transcripts and provide the essential support needed to aid graduation. Students experiencing homelessness or living in foster care may face graduation challenges because they changed schools before earning full credit, or are unable to take a required course at their new school. The new school also may not honor the credits they earned. Senate Bill 324 would also provide students with other methods to demonstrate coursework has been completed to meet satisfaction.

Seventy years ago on June 23, 1951, the nation’s flagship, SS United States was christened before 40,000 spectators and a huge television audience, draped in red, white and blue in Newport News, Virginia. The largest passenger ship ever built in the United States, she instantly became a world-wide sensation and symbol of American strength and innovation. Made with products and components from every state in the nation, the SS United States was a global ambassador and pinnacle of mid-century maritime design. Today, she is berthed in Philadelphia awaiting redevelopment. The SS United States Conservancy is raising money to save the vessel, and convert her to a stationary mixed-use waterfront destination.
