Juniata Valley is two wins away from a state baseball championship. The Green hornets knocked off MMI Prep, 6-2, to advance to Monday’s semifinals against Halifax.
Mount Union’s softball team was defeated in the state quarterfinals, losing to Williams Valley yesterday, 7-2. The Trojans end the year with a 19-4 record.
Tied at one after nine, Atlanta scored twice in the top of the 10th but the Phillies refused to lose on Thursday afternoon, scoring three times in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 victory, the second walk-off win in a row for the Fightin’s over the Braves.
Also yesterday, the L.A. Dodgers completed a sweep of the Pirates with a 6-3 win.
And, in area minor league action, Williamsport knocked off State College, 7-5. Richmond took two from Harrisburg 8-1 and 1-0. Altoona and Akron were rained out and will play two today.
