Senate Bill 1 will expand funding for the state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit, and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit programs. According to data from the Department of Community and Economic Development, more than 60,000 students received scholarships through these programs in the most recent year for which figures are available.   Nearly 43,000 applicants were denied due to lack of funding. The bill was sent to the full Senate for consideration.
