Mount Union is into the 2A state quarterfinals, winning a first round softball game against Wyalusing yesterday, 12-3. The Trojans take on Williams Valley on Thursday. The Mifflin County girls, meanwhile, saw their season come to an end with a 7-4 6A loss to Canon-McMillan.
In 2A baseball, Shenango eliminated Mount Union, 7-3, and Serra Catholic bounced Southern Huntingdon, 13-11. In single-A, Juniata Valley knocked off Northern Bedford, 9-6, while MMI Prep beat Greenwood, 7-3.
A winner’s bracket game tonight between Angelo State and Seton Hill in the Division II college baseball tournament. Former Mifflin County pitcher Peyton Reesman plays for the Griffins.
And it was a quiet day in Major League Baseball yesterday, as just three games were played and not one of them included the Pirates or Phillies. Today, Philadelphia welcomes in the Atlanta Braves while the Bucs are at home hosting the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
