Mount Union and Penns Valley are both heading to the PIAA softball tournament but the Trojans go in as District VI 2A champs with a nine-inning 9-8 victory over the Rams in yesterday’s championship game.

Former Mifflin County pitcher Peyton Reesman and the Seton Hill Griffins enter the Division II baseball tournament as the two-seed, behind top-seeded Central Missouri. Reesman has appeared in 10 games this season, striking out 32 over 24 innings with a 2.63 ERA. Seton Hill takes on Southern New Hampshire on Sunday.

The Pirates got an early start oto their weekend series with Miami, beating the marlins yesterday, 5-3. Today, the Phillies get things going against the Washington Nationals.

And State College won again. That’s four straight for the Spikes with last night’s 10-1 win over Williamsport. Also yesterday, Altoona dropped Richmond, 4-2, and Portland shut out Harrisburg, 7-0.
