Mifflin County’s baseball season is done. The Huskies lost yesterday’s PIAA play-in game with Erie McDowell, 5-3. Mount Union’s boys, meanwhile, worked their way into the state tournament as the D6 2A second place team, defeating Kane in a play-in game yesterday, 9-0. Today, weather permitting, Mount Union’s softball team takes on Penns Valley for the District VI 2A championship.

Off the field, Mifflin County’s Alyssa Souders was named a Mid Penn Commonwealth Division First Team softball all-star. Teammate Josalynn Kibe was named to the second team, as were Husky baseball players Rylan Bailey and Luke Lyter.

The Phillies and Cincinnati were rained out yesterday while the Pirates enjoyed a scheduled day off.  Today, the Bucs host Miami while the Phillies get another day off, this time by schedule.

State College has won three straight, knocking off Williamsport yesterday, 6-4. Elsewhere, Harrisburg held on to beat Portland, 6-5, and Altoona beat Richmond, 9-4.

And, even playing without injured star Joel Embiid, the Sixers were able to beat Washington, 129-112, to advance to the second round of the NBA’s Eastern Conference playoffs.  Next up for Philly, the Atlanta Hawks, who ousted the New York Knicks, also in five games.
