Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) has introduced a concurrent resolution to terminate portions of Governor Tom Wolf’s emergency disaster declaration related to COVID-19. The declaration was issued March 6th, 2020.  House Resolution 106 would terminate the administration’s ability to use the COVID-19 emergency declaration to engage in no-bid, single-source contracting; reestablish work search requirements currently waived by the Department of Labor and Industry; and end the ability of the governor to use the declaration to mandate occupancy limits, business closures and stay-at-home orders.  The introduction of the concurrent resolution follows adoption of two constitutional amendments approved by Pennsylvania voters last week.  House Resolution 106 is scheduled to be considered by the House State Government Committee this morning.

Mifflin County will honor its veterans with a cookout later this week.  This is the first year for the event, which organizers hope will become an annual observance.  The ‘Military Appreciation Month’ cookout will be Friday (May 28th) from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Rec Park in Lewistown.

PennDOT will host a telephone town hall meeting today (May 25th) at 6:00 pm.  The town hall is part of a PennDOT Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study exploring sustainable transportation funding options.   The meeting will provide an opportunity to comment on the statewide PEL study in addition to an active virtual public meeting, accessible online through June 1st at www.penndot.gov/funding.  The public can pre-register for the telephone town hall, but it is not required.
