Authorities in Huntingdon County are seeking more information after a vehicle-pedestrian accident earlier this week.  According to State Police, the mishap occurred Wednesday at about 7:20 am on Shavers Creek Road at the intersection of Boonie Lane in West Township.  A nine-year-old boy was struck by a moving vehicle. The operator of the vehicle left the scene prior to the arrival of police.  The driver is asked to contact State Police at Huntingdon to provide information.

State Representative Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Centre) is taking aim to exempt firearm and ammunition purchases fromPennsylvaniasales tax.Borowicz has co-sponsored legislation which would exclude firearms and ammunition purchases from PA sales and use tax.  She says “Both our state and federal constitutions declare that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be questioned or infringed, yet law-abiding Pennsylvania citizens are subject to several taxes and fees relating to the purchase and ownership of firearms.”  Similar to a recent proposal introduced in West Virginia, the legislation would deliver a permanent state sales tax exemption for firearm and ammunition purchases.

Two fundraisers will be held this month to benefit a Juniata County family.  Drew and Daris Ciecierski were injured in a fire May 2nd in Mifflintown.  The East Juniata High School National Honor Society will host a bake sale Saturday (May 8th) at Schlegel’s Store in Thompsontown from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Monetary donations will be accepted with checks payable to EJHS NHS.  A spaghetti dinner will be held Friday, May 21st from 3:00 pm until sold out at the McAlisterville Community Building.  Dinners are carry-out, and by donation.  Checks may be made payable to COTOD Benefit Fund. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family as well.  To view the GoFundMe, click here.
