Mifflin County High School is closed today (April 29th) through Sunday, May 2nd due to protocol after a sixth individual tested positive for COVID-19.  Officials plan to have the school open for in-person instruction on Monday (May 3rd).  All events at Mifflin County High School scheduled through Sunday (May 2, 2021) have been cancelled.  During the closure, teachers will execute a full remote learning plan.

Cause of death is undetermined for remains found in Huntingdon County.  A State Police K-9 Unit responded to a search for a missing person on Tuesday on Broadtop Mountain Road in Coalmont.  The unit discovered skeletal remains which were transported to Mercyhurst University Forensic Anthropology for processing.  The case is under investigation by the Huntingdon State Police Crime Unit.

The third phase of a COVID-19 relief grant is now open for eligible hospitality industry businesses through SEDA-COG in several counties, including Mifflin, Juniata, and Snyder Counties. For-profit hospitality businesses in the remaining open counties can apply until funds are spent or June 15 at the Community Giving Foundation’s website at https://csgiving.org/chirp/. Authorities say an unidentified individual may have tampered with a water meter at a residence in Kistler Borough to avoid paying the bill.  State Police say a meter at 34 Birch Street is believed to have been bypassed for the past few years.  Total usage during that time is estimated at $4,400.

Work to complete three sections of a culvert system with box culverts on Route 26 and Moore Street in Huntingdon will begin soon.  On Sunday (May 2nd), the contractor will utilize the detour currently in place, using Route 22, Route 1010 to Route 26. The detour will remain in place until June 7th.  Additionally, 7th Street from Washington Street to Route 26 will be closed during the project.
