Mifflin County left the NCAA wrestling championships with a pair of All-Americans. Former Husky Trent Hidlay finished second nationally at 184 pounds with brother Hayden placing fifth at 157. Both Hidlays attend North Carolina State. Penn State, meanwhile, crowned four champions and finished second behind only Iowa in the team standings.
Another Mifflin County alum, Chayce Macknair, finished fifth at the PSAC cross country championships. The Shippensburg sophomore was just six seconds behind the winning runner.
The New Jersey Devils nipped the Penguins yesterday, 2-1, in overtime. The Flyers take on the New York Islanders tonight.
Villanova is into the Sweet Sixteen in the men’s NCAA basketball tournament. A few surprises join the Wildcats after round of 32 upsets yesterday: 8th-seeded Loyola Chicago, 11-seed Syracuse, 12-seed Oregon State and 15-seed Oral Roberts. There are eight more games today to determine the second half of the Sweet Sixteen today.
Justin Peck won 410’s on Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway. Greg Saterlee joined him in the winner’s circle, taking Late Models. Matt Parks won Limited Late Models. Yesterday, Matt Williams won the Port’s Spring Speed Showcase. Greg Saterlee won Late Models for the second day in a row. Ryan Blaney, meanwhile, won NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race in Atlanta. Kyle Larson ran second.
Tobias Harris made two free throws with just over five seconds left in overtime, lifting the Sixers past the New York Knicks, 101-100.
And Matt Jones won the PGA’s Honda Classic, cruising to a five-stroke victory.
