Authorities arrested a Lewistown man after an incident last weekend in the borough. Lewistown Police responded to a report of an agitated male on South Walnut Street just before 9:00 am on March 13th. According to the report, 42-year-old James Fye was involved in a disagreement. He told the other individual he would be “ready” when the police arrived, and retrieved a .30-caliber rifle. Police made contact with Fye, who refused to leave the residence. He eventually relinquished the firearm to another individual. Fye had a criminal history dating back to 2006 which prevented him from legally possessing a firearm. He was taken into custody without incident and placed in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility.
Police in Juniata County received a report of theft by deception earlier this week. On Tuesday, a Honey Grove woman told police she received a tax bill for more than $9,500 for unemployment funds she did not receive. The State Police investigation will continue.
A Harrisburg man was arrested and charged after being taken into custody in Lewistown. Authorities were contacted by Harrisburg Police regarding a sex offender. Fifty-three-year-old Michael Valentino Franklin was not residing at his address in Harrisburg, but instead at a residence in Lewistown. Sex offenders are required to register their proper address with authorities. Franklin, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, was taken into custody on March 13th near East Charles and South Main Streets.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s virtual wildlife education program, Wildlife on WiFi (WoW), has been named the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Environmental Education Program Award by the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators (PAEE).
