A Rebersburg man died Wednesday morning as a result of a logging accident. The Mifflin County Coroner said 19-year-old David M. King was killed when a tree fell on top of him. The victim was pinned under the tree. He died of blunt force trauma. The incident happened in the area of Cave Lane in Decatur Township.
Residents at risk of losing their housing in Juniata County may be eligible to receive up to $5,000 to prevent homelessness. The Resident Subsistence Program is being offered in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support hard-hit residents. The grants can be used to pay utility payments to prevent cutoff of service. Each eligible family may receive up to $5,000, paid directly to the landlord, or utility company on their behalf. Funds will not be given directly to families. Assistance is available for up to 90 days per family. Applications will be accepted through March 1st. Appointments will be handled virtually or via phone. Due to the impending severe weather in our area and continued nationwide weather-related supply chain challenges, Geisinger is rescheduling all first-dose and some second-dose COVID vaccines set for today (Thursday, February 18th). The Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital Vaccine Center will be closed today. (February 18th). All February 18th first-dose vaccine appointments will be rescheduled to Monday, March 1st. All February 18th second-dose vaccine appointments will be rescheduled to Friday, February 19th. Geisinger facilities in other parts of the Commonwealth have re-scheduled appointments as well.
