Mifflin County went 3-0 in wrestling this weekend, beating Hamburg, Manheim Central and Juniata. Juniata also lost their Hamburg and Mannheim Central matches.
Lower Dauphin defeated Mifflin County’s boy’s basketball team, 63-39. Southern Huntingdon beat the East Juniata boys, 48-45. Juniata Valley’s girls, meanwhile, took care of Moshannon Valley, 74-12.
The 8th-ranked Virginia Tech wrestlers upset #3 NC State on criteria over the weekend. A couple of former state champs out of Mifflin County met with mixed success for the Wolfpack. Hayden Hidlay, ranked second in the country, won 9-4. Younger brother Trent, ranked fourth nationally at 184, fell to second-ranked Hunter Bolen, 2-1.
Port Royal’s Caleb Dowling, who won a state championship wrestling for nearby St. Joseph’s, won a pair of extra matches this weekend, beating wrestlers from Northern Colorado. He is 5-1 so far in this, his freshman season.
Tom Brady threw three touchdowns and the Tampa Bay defense held Kansas City to just three field goals as the Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV, 31-9. It was Brady’s seventh Super Bowl title and fifth Super Bowl MVP award.
Sean Couturier returned after missing 10 games with a rib injury, helping the Flyers to a 7-4 win in Washington yesterday afternoon.
And Penn State’s Lady Lions cruised past Wisconsin, 98-74.
