Penn State Extension is offering a web-based seminar for those thinking of running or local office.  The webinar, “Toss Your Hat in Ring,” will be offered at three different times. The program provides an overview of Pennsylvania local government and the responsibilities of a township supervisor, a borough council member and a school board director. It also offers instructions on how to run, such as filing a petition, reporting campaign expenses and other important information.  The session is scheduled for Thursday, February 4th, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm and from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, and Wednesday, February 10th, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The webinar will not offer campaign tips or strategies, but instead will focus on understanding the responsibilities that come with public service.  The fee for the webinar is $25 per person.  Registration information is available at https://extension.psu.edu/toss-your-hat-in-the-ring-webinar.

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners will hold its first meeting of 2021 on Saturday (January 23rd).  Among the items the board will consider is a proposal to remove the limitation on the number of antlerless deer licenses for which hunters can apply.  Also, there are proposed regulations to allow eLicenses to be carried afield as an alternative to paper licenses, and a change to allow landowners an additional two months to apply for enrollment in the Deer Management Assistance Program.   A new addition to the agenda also proposes to eliminate the use of centerfire and rimfire rifles in Pennsylvania’s fall turkey season.
