High school sports returned over the weekend. Among the local scores, Palmyra’s girl’s basketball team upended Mifflin County, 50-41, and East Juniata knocked off Newport’s girls, 52-36.
The Mifflin County wrestlers topped Lower Dauphin, 44-18, but lost to State College, 47-15. Juniata, meanwhile, lost to Altoona despite falls from Indians’ Jonathan Kauffman, Casey Smith and Taylor Smith. JHS defeated Columbia Montour, 41-6.
The Penguins won yesterday, defeating Washington, 4-3, in a shootout. Last night’s scheduled NBA game between the Sixers and Oklahoma City, meanwhile, was postponed due to ongoing contact tracing.
Both Penn State basketball teams suffered Sunday losses. The men fell at Purdue, 80-72, while Northwestern knocked off the Lady Lions, 67-50.
The Penn State men’s hockey team took two from Michigan State, completing the sweep with Saturday night’s 3-1 victory.
And the NFL’s conference championships are set. Kansas City will host Buffalo in the AFC and Tampa Bay heads to Green Bay in the NFC.
