A Liverpool man has been arrested for attempted armed robbery of a Snyder County business. State Police at Selinsgrove arrested 36-year-old Eric Shingara Monday for an incident at the CVS Pharmacy on Marketplace Boulevard in Monroe Township. The incident took place at about noon. Police say Shingara approached the store pharmacist and placed a plastic bag the counter before demanding prescription medication. When the pharmacist did not immediately produce the medication, Shingara pulled a knife. He fled the scene in a vehicle but was taken into custody at his residence.

State Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R-34) will introduce a resolution to create a bipartisan Special Committee to conduct an exhaustive review of all aspects of the 2020 general election. Corman will introduce a Senate Resolution to establish the “Special Committee on Election Integrity and Reform” under Senate Rules. The Special Committee will be comprised of four Republican members and four Democrat members. The Special Committee is anticipated to produce a report that will be presented to the General Assembly and standing committee(s) and will cover areas of legislative recommendations.

The Mifflin County Commissioners have announced that the County was approved for a competitive CDBG-CV grant award in the amount of more than $1.2-million ($1,252,792) to procure laptops for special education and low to moderate income students. The funds will help students continue their education remotely due to the shutdown of schools. Only four projects in PA were included in the most recent block of funding approvals. A second grant for more than $432,000 ($432,680) was also approved for Mifflin County after collaboration with Brown Township, Derry Township, and Granville Township Supervisors, and Lewistown Borough Council for students in those municipalities. It is estimated that these funds will procure approximately 2,500 laptops for eligible Mifflin County public school students.

The refuse pick-up schedule in the Borough of Lewistown will be revised this week due to Christmas. The Thursday and Friday routes will each be picked up one day earlier. The Thursday, December 24th route will be picked up today. The Friday, December 25th route will be picked up on Thursday. Friday’s recycling customers should hold materials until the next scheduled day on January 8th.
