Mifflin County and NC State’s Trent Hidlay has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week after his performance this past weekend at the first-ever RTC Cup presented by Titan Mercury. Wrestling at 86 kg, Hidlay was the only athlete in the competition to go 5-0.

The Penn State men’s basketball team set the tone with an active defensive effort and a career performance offensively from guard Izaiah Brockington to down the No. 15 Virginia Tech Hokies 75-55. The Nittany Lions ended Virginia Tech’s 34-game non-conference home winning streak and dealt the Hokies their first loss of the season.

Former Phillies slugger Dick Allen died Monday at his home in Western Pennsylvania after a battle with cancer. Allen was a seven-time All-Star in 15 big-league seasons. He began his career with the Phillies, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1964. He was the American League MVP in 1972 with the White Sox. After playing in St. Louis, Los Angeles and Chicago, Allen returned to the Phillies in 1975. His No. 15 was retired by the organization in September. Dick Allen was 78 years old.
