An order issued by the Wolf Administration is having an impact on Pennsylvania schools.  Travelers and Pennsylvania residents who are returning home from other countries or states must have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to entering the Commonwealth, or quarantine for 14 days upon entry.  

Mifflin County Schools will remain on a remote learning schedule through January 8th, 2021, with a tentative return to in-person instruction January 11th.  Winter athletic practices will be delayed until January 9th. For more details and up-to-date information, check the COVID-19 Dashboard on the school district website, or access directly at https://www.mcsdk12.org/covid-19-daily-school-report-card/.

Juniata County schools will remain in virtual-only learning until January 4th.  Remote learning will remain until the transmission rate substantially slows and the county returns to a “Moderate Level of Community Transmission” for two weeks in a row.

A weekend fire has been ruled accidental.  The blaze broke out at about 2:40 pm Sunday on Terrace Boulevard on Juniata Terrace.  An investigation by the State Police Fire Marshall concluded a faulty extension cord was the cause of the fire. 

The Borough of Lewistown has modified the refuse schedule for Thanksgiving.  Thursday’s route will be picked up today.  All other days remain the same.  Thursday’s recycling customers should hold materials until their next scheduled day on December 10th. The Borough has also suspended street sweeping and maintenance parking regulations (November 20th) through April 5th, 2021 for most streets. Exceptions include Chestnut Street from Five Points to Logan Street, Market Street from Grand Street to Five Points, Valley Street from Five Points to Third Street, and the entire length of Academy Hill.

This Thanksgiving and throughout the upcoming Holiday season, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with the Mifflin County DUI Task Force to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving. Drunk driving is a real threat to our community every day, and that threat increases during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.  Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.  If you are planning to head out to the bar or to parties, make sure you plan for a sober ride home.  By working together, we can save lives and help keep America’s roadways safe. The Mifflin County DUI Task Force will engage in enforcement activities from November 25th through January 1st, 2021.  If you drive impaired, be on notice – Police are actively looking for you.
