Despite using its fourth-string quarterback, Dallas led undefeated Pittsburgh by 10 points with 15 minutes to play. Pittsburgh rallied with 15 fourth quarter points to beat the Cowboys, 24-19. The Steelers are 8-0, while Dallas drops to 2-7.

The Sunday night showdown between Tampa’s Tom Brady and New Orleans’ Drew Brees turned out to be a dud. The Saints steamrolled the Bucs, 38-3.

Alabama is the new top-ranked team in college football, replacing Clemson, who lost in double-overtime to Notre Dame.  The Irish are #2 and Ohio State is three. Clemson drops to four and Texas rounds out the top five. Penn State, who lost to huge underdog Maryland, is 0-3 for the first time since 2001.

Saturday, Oil City held off Juniata in the first round of the state football playoffs, 34-33. Millville edged the East Juniata boys soccer team, 2-1, while Southern Columbia doubled by the EJ girls, 4-2, both in the District IV finals.

24-year-old Chase Elliot won NASCAR’s Sprint Cup championship, following in his father’s footsteps. “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville”  won the title in 1988.

And North Carolina has won the ACC field hockey championship, beating Louisville in the final, 4-2. Greenwood alum Paityn Wirth, a sophomore transfer from Penn State University, started nine of the 11 games this season for the defending national champs, scoring five goals.
