Mifflin County Junior High School is closed today and Friday due to a student who tested positive for COVID-19.  All “contact tracing” has been completed and students and staff who will need to quarantine have been notified.  The quarantine will last 14 days for the students and staff who had “close contact” with this student.  Students will receive school assignments through a full on-line format during the closure. 

The Juniata County School District will be fully remote for Thursday, November 12th and Friday, November 13th.  The decision was made due to an increase in COVID positive cases in surrounding communities.  The return to the scheduled 4-1 plan will be confirmed in an announcement November 12th. 

Representative Rich Irvin has been re-elected to the Pennsylvania State House in the 81st District.  The Republican defeated his Democrat challenger Ian Kidd.

An area man faces charges stemming from an incident last month in Lewistown.  Authorities say 21-year-old Matthew Cruz of Lewistown was arrested October 17th in the area of Carbon Alley.  Cruz apparently discharged a handgun into a vehicle and nearby building during a dispute.  Borough Police charged him with terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. 

A former Cumberland County bank manager has been sentenced for bank fraud.  The Justice Department says 54-year-old Karen E. Ramm of Wormleysburg was sentenced on October 28th to one year plus one day in prison.  Ramm was sentenced for her role in a bank fraud scheme while she was branch manager and loan officer of Commerce Bank – now First National Bank of Pennsylvania.  Ramm pled guilty to defrauding the bank by extending a business loan on false terms to a personal friend.  The judge also ordered Ramm to pay more than $102,000 ($102,500) in restitution.

The American Red Cross will be in Juniata County for a blood drive today.  The bloodmobile will be at Lack Tuscarora EMS on Route 75 in East Waterford from 1:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
