Two additional positive COVID-19 cases have been reported within the Mifflin County School District.  The administration said yesterday the cases involve a Mifflin County Junior High School employee and a bus driver who transports students from Indian Valley Elementary. There are now six active positive cases within the school district. 

To help spread the message that Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with the Mifflin County DUI Task Force to remind everyone of the dangers of drunk driving.  Halloween poses an especially dangerous threat to pedestrians since more youngsters are trick-or-treating.  It is never safe to drink and drive.  Between 2014 and 2018, there were 145 drunk-driving fatalities on Halloween night.  According to the NHTSA, 41% of all people killed in motor vehicle crashes on Halloween night during that time were in crashes involving a drunk driver.  The DUI Task Force will engage in enforcement activities such as roving patrols from now through November 8th, targeting impaired operators.  The Task Force is comprised of officers from the Lewistown Borough, Armagh Township, Granville Township, and Mifflin County Regional Police Departments.

Pennsylvania House Republicans have unveiled a pro-jobs, recovery-focused legislative package designed to achieve an economic comeback.  The “Commonwealth’s COVID Comeback” would rebound the economy by incentivizing manufacturing with no new taxes or fees.  Included in the package are bills designed to bring more jobs back to Pennsylvania by targeting zones in the state to be used as the base of operations for manufacturing. Businesses in those zones would receive tax abatements and would be eligible for targeted job creation tax credits.  Other bills would encourage entrepreneurs and businesses to create more jobs in the Commonwealth by lowering the Corporate Net Income Tax, and would provide commonsense protections via limited liability to the critical suppliers, health care providers, and employers operating during the pandemic.
