Area boys soccer yesterday saw East Juniata take care of Millersburg, 6-1, behind a pair of goals from Jake Brackbill. Also, Greenwood nipped Juniata, 2-1, and Mechanicsburg edged Mifflin County, 1-0. In girl’s action, Mechanicsburg beat the Huskies, 8-3. Aubrey Strohecker had all three Mifflin County goals.
East Juniata won the boy’s team title at the District IV golf championships. Tiger Tanner Barth won the individual title, with teammates Will Orwig and Caleb Kirk finishing third and fifth, respectively.
The Juniata cross country teams got first place finishes from James Hazard and Kierstyn Fogle in a meet against Bald Eagle Area. Chambersburg, meanwhile, beat the Mifflin County boys and girls with Brayden Harris and Kylee Cubbison being the top finishers for the Huskies.
Atlanta has advanced to the best-of-five round after sweeping its best-of-three first round series with the Cincinnati Reds. The Braves won yesterday, 5-0. Also moving on, the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-0 winners over Milwaukee. Oakland also advances after taking yesterday’s winner-take-all with the Chicago White Sox, 6-4. St. Louis and San Diego will play one more after the Padres took Game Two, 11-9. Miami and the Cubs were rained out. The Marlins lead the series, one game to none.
Denver picked up its first win of the year while dropping the Jets to 0-4 with last night’s 37-28 Broncos’ victory. And that Steelers-Titans game that was postponed until Monday or Tuesday due to coronavirus issues on the Titans’ has now been pushed back until later this season.
And reports say the Sixers have their man. It appears that Doc Rivers will take over as Philadelphia’s coach for the fired Brett Brown.
