Mifflin County’s Owen Wise golfed well, finishing seventh at yesterday’s District VI Class AAA championships. Fellow Husky Reagan Shafranich competes in the girl’s district tournament today. Also today, the District IV championships.

Juniata goalkeeper Hailey Kepner was tested, fending off 20 of the 21 shots she faced as the Indians’ girls soccer team nipped Halifax yesterday, 2-1. East Juniata, meanwhile, got four more goals from Kierstyn Fogle in a 6-1 victory over Line Mountain.

In the first round of the Major League Baseball playoffs, Houston eliminated Minnesota with a 3-1 win. Also advancing are the Tampa Bay Rays, 8-2 winners over Toronto, and the Yankees, who beat Cleveland, 10-9.  Oakland and Chicago will play one more to determine who moves on. The A’s stayed alive with yesterday’s 5-3 win.

Taking Game One in National League best-of-threes were the Dodgers, 4-2 over Milwaukee, St. Louis, who beat San Diego, 7-4, the Miami Marlins, 5-1 winners over the Cubs, and Atlanta, which nipped Cincinnati in 13 innings, 1-0.

The Lakers asserted their dominance in Game One of their best-of-seven NBA finals with Miami. Two of the five Heat starters left the game with injuries in L.A.’s 116-98 win.

And the NFL kicks off Week Four with a pair of 0-3 teams when the Jets host Denver this evening. The battle between the unbeaten Steelers and Tennessee has been pushed back until Monday or Tuesday due to coronavirus concerns with the Titans. The Eagles are in San Francisco Sunday night.
