Kansas City’s first-year starter Patrick Mahomes threw six touchdown passes to beat the Steelers yesterday, 42-37. The Eagles also lost a week two game, 27-21, at Tampa Bay.

Miami held off the Phillies for a 6-4 victory. The Pirates, meanwhile, added an insurance run in the top of the ninth to go up 3-0. That run made the difference, as Milwaukee scored twice in the bottom of the ninth. Bucs 3, Brew Crew 2.

High school sports from the weekend… Mifflin County’s boys took first out of 22 teams at the Altoona Invitational cross country meet. Husky Dakota Macknair was second overall individually, Brayden Harris third. The Mifflin County girls were fifth of 21 with Joy Galbraith finishing a team-best fifth for the Huskies. Juniata’s boys were led by second place finisher Garrett Baublitz as they finished 11th of 27 at a meet in Newville.

Mifflin County’s girls soccer team eased past Upper Dauphin, 11-0. Jess Bickhart scored four times for the Huskies. Juniata’s girls lost to the hosts in Altoona Lady Lion Shootout, 1-0. East Juniata’s girls beating State College in that tourney, 4-3. Elsewhere,  EJ’s boys bested Millersburg, 3-1. Cade Brubaker, Cy Fronk and Rowan Smith scored a goal each for the Indians. Mifflin County’s boys lost to Central Dauphin East in the completion of a suspended match, 3-0. Also over the weekend, Forbes Road handled the East Juniata field hockey team, 10-0.

And the Mifflin County High School marching band, which we get to hear at all of the Huskies football games, placed first in its group at the 52nd Annual Black Diamond Cavalcade of Bands in Shamokin on Saturday night. The band also won awards for Best Color Guard, Best Percussion, Best Music and Best Visual.
