The lack of rain yesterday – finally – allowed some high school teams to get back at it. The Mifflin County boys soccer team lost to Palmyra, 5-1. Reese Carter scored the lone goal for the Huskies.

Elsewhere, Cedar Cliff blanked the Mifflin County field hockey team, 4-0. The Huskies’ volleyball team took Red Land to the limit, but eventually lost, 3-2. And Chayce Macknair won the overall race, helping Mifflin County’s cross country team eke out a one-point victory over Chambersburg, 28-29. The Huskies also defeated Central Dauphin East, 17-39. Brayden Harris finished second, Chase Sheaffer fourth for Mifflin County. The Mifflin County girls beat CD East, 25-35, but lost to Chambersburg, 22-39. Joy Galbraith finished a team-best fourth for the Huskies.

The Phillies took one on the chin yesterday, getting beat by Washington not once, but twice. The Nats took the first game of the doubleheader, 3-1, before the Fightin’s bullpen collapsed again in the nightcap. Washington scored three in the top of the ninth to tie it before winning it in the tenth, 7-6. The losses drop the Phillies six and a half games behind in both the National League East and wild card races.

The Pirates also lost yesterday, falling to St. Louis, 11-5.

And Juniata College is up a couple of spots in this week’s Division III women’s volleyball poll. The 3-3 Eagles are currently ranked #13. Calvin is still number one.
